ActiveDays and Parkbus are lacing up our shoes and heading to the Dundas Valley to run some trails in a beautiful forest with some stunning waterfalls. The Dundas Valley lies within Hamilton - but you would never know it. This conservation area contains waterfalls, forests, meadows, rivers and unique geological formations. The Dundas Valley spreads out into Lake Ontario and is part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere. There is a 450 million year old geologic history here and we will be running through the biodiverse Carolinian Forest that can be found nowhere else in Canada. Along the way, we will encounter three breathtaking waterfalls - Tiffany, Sherman and Canterbury Falls.

ABOUT THE RUN:

To us, hosting this event is about creating an environment that you can engage with in your own way. We're here to meet you where you are at. The trails are for everyone from experienced runners to new runners. We have 3 hours to run the trails.

We will have a variety of groups branch off running with different volunteer pacers. Each group will have a different objective based on distance as pace. There will be one long run and couple of groups running shorter distances as well. And you can always explore and run on your own.

This is a self-supported run so everyone can go at their own pace and distance depending on their training schedule. Everyone needs to bring a change of clothes to stay warm after running which you can store on the bus. The Dundas Valley Trail Centre is a place to stay warm and have a hot drink once your run is over

ActiveDays is a community. This is an inclusive space to meet new people, share stories and have fun! To us, there is no better place to get to know someone than the outdoors. We all share a desire to get out, explore and stretch our legs.

While the focus of this event is running, feel free to come out for a mix of hiking and running.

We will depart Toronto at 9:00 am from 30 Carlton Street. Once we arrive at Dundas Valley, we will have over 3 hours to run, hike and explore. There is a network of trails that can be linked to extend or shorten the run.

We can't think of a better way to spend the first Sunday in December. Come with us and explore.

YOUR HIKE LEADER: WALKER KITCHENS

Walker Kitchens is ActiveDays Program Coordinator, and he loves learning outdoors. Childhood summers spent outside in Ontario and Newfoundland fostered a deep curiosity within him that continues to grow. This desire to explore led him abroad. After two years of working as a facilitator in Cambodia and India, Walker has returned home to Toronto keen to venture back into the Canadian environment. Knowledge sharing and community building energize him and he is excited to help build a community that is eager to share ideas, stories and skills in a collaborative way. When you see him, ask him to tell you a story and make sure to share with him a passion, skill or story of your own.
